Higher Lumber Prices Means Increased Criminal Activity

Lumber prices have been on the rise over the last year and outperforming all other commodities by a landslide as reported by ‘BusinessInsider.com’ on March 6, 2021.

“Lumber prices have skyrocketed 140% over the last year…” Analysts are expecting lumber prices to increase even further in the future. While this may not mean much to you, it is a huge sign in the security industry that there will be a large following spike in criminal activity in regards to construction projects and lumber.

You may assume that criminals just steal only for face value, but contrary to that belief they are very clever about what they want and from whom they should take it from.

Construction sites are one of the most common targets for criminal activity, even before the increase in lumber prices.

Because they know that there is very little being done to secure the construction site after working hours. With construction materials typically being placed in the open and unprotected, criminals most often trespass in the middle of the night with a vehicle to haul away good amounts of material causing projects to be delayed.
